Holiday Traveling and Jet Lag
Don’t let jet lag put a damper on your holiday trip as you struggle to adjust to a new time zone. The remedy most known for trauma—Arnica--is also often the “go to” remedy for jet lag. This is not surprising since people suffering from jet lag often experience body soreness or flu-like achiness. Check out other common jet lag remedies here.
FTC Workshop Report & Action Alert
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) held a workshop in Washington, D.C. on September 21, 2015 to evaluate advertising for over-the-counter (OTC) homeopathic products. There were three panels presenting the homeopathic industry, science and legality. Speakers on the panels represented the FTC, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the homeopathic community, research, advertising, and mainstream medicine. NCH Board member Tina Quirk and NCH member Glenna Tinney attended the workshop as NCH’s representative and observer.
The September 21 public workshop was the first phase of information gathering for Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The next phase is the public comment period – which is now open and will remain open through November 20, 2015. Help us get your own personal messages to the FTC on the following points:

Headline Misrepresenting Homeopathy
Are you frustrated by the media misusing the word homeopathy to describe other treatments and therapies? The headline of this article was recently brought to our attention. Speak up and contact the editor requesting a revision. It's essential that the press learn the actual definition of homeopathy to protect their own credibility. Hopefully, once they understand that injecting amygdalin is not a homeopathic protocol and is entirely out of the scope of practice of a homeopathic physician they will see that the headline is misrepresenting the incident since it has nothing to do with her designation, MD(H), as a homeopathic physician.
If you are a licensed physician, the Medscape website will also allow you to post a comment in response to the article. Let other readers know the truth - that amygdalin injections is not homeopathy. And point them to our Learn About Homeopathy page. If you come across an online article or blog that you would like other NCHers to help with, let us know.
THE ORGANON by Samuel Hahnemann – An Outline
It is often said that studying The Organon is fundamental for any successful homeopath. In this series we glean some Winston Wisdom by revisiting Julian’s outline of this masterpiece.
71. Summary of all that has been said so far
71. All diseases are groups of symptoms that can be cured by similar remedies. There are three points for curing: investigate the disease, investigate the remedies, learn how to employ them.
72-81. Acute and Chronic Diseases
Note: The above is only an outline. To comprehend The Organon in its fullness, we recommend that you read the book.

Better than Placebo? You bet!
Several systematic reviews and meta-analyses of homeopathy have been performed. However, none had looked solely at placebo-controlled trials of individualized homeopathic treatment as delivered by homeopaths in practice. A research team has have now performed such an analysis and found that homeopathic medicines, when prescribed during individualized treatment, are 15 to 20 times more likely to have beneficial effect than placebo. Data Confirms that Homeopathic Treatment Benefits Children’s Coughs
The effectiveness of homeopathic syrup on cough has been demonstrated in an adult population in a previous double-blind randomized study. The present prospective observational study investigated children affected by wet acute cough caused by non-complicated URTIs, comparing those who received the homeopathic syrup versus those treated with the homeopathic syrup plus antibiotic. Your hunting dog was out with you retrieving hard all rainy weekend long! Monday morning, he's awfully stiff in the rear each time he tries to get up. You think, hmmm... he got wet while overheated, so you give him a dose of:___________

Stories of Inspiration
In summer of 2011 I was pregnant with our second child. Mid-way during first trimester, I started experiencing acute abdominal pain and heartburn after practically every meal. My PCP ordered an ultrasound exam of the abdomen which showed gall bladder sludge or small stones. For a healthy not-pregnant patient, the PCP would have proceeded with a course of full strength pain medication, anti-acid and perhaps even surgery to remove the gall bladder but all of this was off the table for me. I was advised to switch to a fat-free, dairy-free, low starch, bland diet to reduce the occurrence of pain. This did not help as I would experience pain even after eating the lightest of meals.
I called my homeopath after a few weeks. He prescribed Nux Vomica 200c and mailed a constitutional remedy to follow. I felt much better 6-8 hours after the first dose of Nux vomica. I could eat reasonable meals. I did not have pain for several days and only had it after some rich and spicy food. Another dose of Nux Vomica relieved the symptoms right away.
After the constitutional remedy, I did not have to take any more doses. I still watched my diet for weight and general health reasons.
In 2013, when I became pregnant again with our third child, I discussed the gall bladder issue with my PCP. Another ultrasound exam was conducted and no stones or sludge were to be found. My gall bladder was completely normal. I feel very lucky to have received successful homeopathic treatment for this acute problem instead of surgery and a life-long dietary limitation.

Oregon Association of Naturopathic Physicians (OANP)
Section 2706, the provider non-discrimination provision of the Public Health Service Act as amended by the Affordable Care Act, went into effect on the first day of 2014. Insurance plans issued on or after January 1, 2014 are prohibited from discriminating against naturopathic physicians when the licensed ND is treating the same conditions or performing the same services that the insurer would otherwise cover.
After almost a year of Oregon Naturopathic Physicians (OANP) working with Oregon’s Insurance Division in advance of this law going into effect, it appears that the majority of insurers and insurance plans are in some way violating this law.
In response to these violations, the OANP filed a class action lawsuit in federal court against Health Net Health Plan of Oregon, Inc. (Health Net) and their contracted benefits provider American Specialty Health (ASH), alleging unlawful and discriminatory practices. Read the July 7th press release here.
Canadian Consumers Centre for Homeopathy (3CH)
Please help 3CH fight for homeopathy and for health care freedom! In a surprise announcement on July 31, Minister of Health Rona Ambrose stated that, as of July 2016, Health Canada (HC) not only will require stiffer “not-a-vaccine” labeling on nosodes, but will “no longer approve specific health claims on homeopathic products for cough, cold, and flu for children 12 and under, unless those claims are supported by scientific evidence.” Basically it forbids homeopathic manufacturers to say on the packaging of cold, cough and flu medicines what they are for. (The claimed pretext: "to ensure that Canadian parents... have the information they need to make informed health choices." Uh... right.) If parents don't know what products to buy, they won't buy them. And if it ceases to be economically feasible to sell them, the manufacturers will quit making them. Read more on this and how you can help here.
Council for Homeopathic Certification (CHC)
The CHC is in need of items (questions) for our examination. We are in the process of revising the exam and need people to write potential examination questions. You can earn continuing education credits for this renewal period by attending an Item Writing training and submitting items that are accepted by the CHC Examination Committee.
Item writing is central to the certification of homeopathic practitioners and a way for you to impact the quality of our profession. We look forward to your participation in this critical process.
Please share your expertise and consider writing some questions for the examination. If you are interesting in writing questions for the exam, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org on or before November 30, 2015.
Homeopaths Without Borders (HWB)
It’s flu season in Haiti. HWB-trained Homéopathes Communautaires have been inundated with cases of fast-onset high fevers worse from motion, with headache, heavy perspiration at night, and cold hands. In another part of Haiti, the local HCs report high fevers with headaches that go into loose coughs, worse from heat. Thanks to their training, their homeopathic kits, and our continued mentoring, the HCs are able to respond quickly to help their neighbors. Please visit our website for further details as this flu season evolves.
