NCH Announcements

FDA Consumer Commenting Period

The public hearing was the first phase of information gathering for FDA. The next phase of information gathering is a public comment period – which is now open and will remain open through June 22, 2015.

Help us get the following messages to the FDA:

  • Consumers have positive attitudes about access to over-the-counter homeopathic medicines
  • Consumers ARE able to make informed decisions about purchasing homeopathic products vs traditional OTC medications
  • Consumers want to find the right medicine for their symptoms in the appropriate category area of the store

We encourage everyone who uses homeopathic products to take 5 minutes to submit comments to the FDA about:

  • YOUR own personal position and viewpoint regarding homeopathy
  • YOUR understanding and practical knowledge regarding purchasing decisions of OTC homeopathic products

Homeopathy for Prostate Health

June is Men's Health Month and prostate conditions are taking center stage. Not only affecting elderly men, prostatitis and benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) are both much more common than might be expected in middle-aged individuals. It is always advisable to seek professional advice for chronic, long-standing complaints from a professional homeopath. In an acute attack consider the remedies below for some relief while you wait to see a professional to rule out the possibility of a more serious condition.

  • Sabal serrulata – Frequent urge to pass urine (especially at night), difficulty passing urine, area around prostate feels cold, painful intercourse, ejaculation is painful or impossible, prostatic emissions with stool.
  • Thuja occidentalis – Frequent urge to pass urine, burning sensation at neck of bladder, feeling as if urine dribbling down urethra, forked stream of urine, involuntary urination in elderly men, easy discharge of prostatic fluids, lump sensation in rectum. Concomitant Symptom: History of gonorrhea.
  • Pulsatilla – Severe pains after urination (sharp or spasm), spurting stream of urine, thick yellow discharge, urgent need to pass urine, worse from lying on back, retention of urine is in the elderly. Concomitant Symptom: History of gonorrhea
  • Chimaphilla umbellato – Itching, burning, soreness in the region of the gland, constant urge to urinate, worse from pressure, worse from sitting, sensation of sitting on a ball, stringy mucus discharge, can only pass urine standing with legs spread and bending forward.
  • Lycopodium clavatum – Enlargement with sexual dysfunction, frequent painful urging to urinate, pain during or after urination, urination delayed, painful straining—dribbles by drops, needle-like pains in bladder and anus. Concomitant Symptoms: Much flatulence.
  • Kali bichromium – Pain aggravated by walking, must stand still for relief, needle-like pain or drawing pain that extends from prostate into the penis, burning in urethra after urinating, very thick, string, or sticky discharge.

It’s important to note that typical cases of prostatitis and BPH have very few distinguishing symptoms that help in remedy selection. If no single remedy is an obvious choice, then you might try each individually (one at a time) and pay close attention to any changes.

THE ORGANON by Samuel Hahnemann –  An Outline
Provided in tribute to Julian Winston, May 1941 – June 2005, beloved Editor-In-Chief of Homeopathy Today for 21 years.

It is often said that studying The Organon is fundamental for any successful homeopath. In this series we glean some Winston Wisdom by revisiting Julian’s outline of this masterpiece.

Paragraphs 40 – 44: Lays out the philosophy of the system (continued)

  1. New diseases can join older diseases and become complex. Neither removes the other
  2. Heavy drugging with allopathic medicines leads to an artificial drug disease and makes it into a chronic problem
  3. Two dissimilar diseases can exist in the body at the same time
  4. But when two similar diseases meet we can observe how cure takes place.
  5. Two similar diseases cannot suspend, ward off, or exist at the same time.

Note: The above is only an outline. To comprehend The Organon in its fullness, we recommend that you read the book.
The Organon is usually studied by the intermediate to advanced student of homeopathy.

Arnica Dramatically Affects Patient Satisfaction

A recent study from the Division of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, Department of Surgery, University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI shows that Arnica montana accelerates postoperative healing, with quicker resolution of the extent and the intensity of ecchymosis (bruising) after osteotomies (surgical cutting of bone or removal of bone) in rhinoplasty surgery patients. Study subjects scheduled for rhinoplasty surgery with nasal bone osteotomies by a single surgeon were prospectively randomized to receive either oral perioperative Arnica montana, or placebo in a double-blinded fashion. The quicker resolution of the extent and the intensity of bruising proved to dramatically affect patient satisfaction.

Homeopathic Remedy Triturations: Into the Heart of Homeopathy
June 22, 2015, 8:00pm – 9:00pm ET

Judy and Anneke feel that triturations are at the core of our healing art, and that is behooves every homeopath to have a solid understanding of this process. They have found that doing triturations, i.e. making a remedy from raw substance into a usable remedy, is a process that clearly demonstrates via personal experience how powerful and potent a remedy is.

Homeopaths who know how to do triturations properly can often help their patients by making a unique and specific remedy for that individual. For example, making a remedy from someone’s kidney stone, or from the substance to which a patient is addicted, or a remedy from a mother’s colostrum or breast milk for her child. In CEASE therapy, the patient is given a series of substances, often made from medicines or supplements they have taken that have impacted their health.

The modern trituration movement has also taken a further step. Rather than doing three rounds of triturating, we continue for several additional rounds. The term C4 homeopathy refers to these additional rounds of triturating, setting these remedies apart from those made with the traditional 3 rounds or from mother tinctures. Judy and Anneke will discuss using these in practice and guidelines for where they are preferred.

A special thanks to Karen B. Allen, CCH for providing the REPERTORY QUIZ to Homeopathy Today magazine in 2003.

After being thrown by a horse, your usually grounded and happy 12 year old daughter becomes moody, complains that her heart is beating rapidly, double checks the locks on doors because she is scared that someone will break into the house. Once social and easy-going, she is capricious, easily vexed, and clingy. She craves ice cream and cold drinks. The first remedy you would think of would be?

Stories of Inspiration

The second time I used homeopathy, my 1.5 year old son had eczema on the back of his hand. He would scratch himself while he was sleeping, and it would bleed and was very sore. I went to his Pediatrician and he was prescribed Cortisone cream. I knew the potential side effects, and was concerned that he would end up with it in his mouth, so thought I would try homeopathy first. The homeopathic doctor assessed him for an hour and a half, determined he didn't process fats/oils very well, and prescribed Pulsatilla. Within two weeks, his eczema disappeared and has never returned as strong. He occasionally gets mild eczema in the winter and we start the Pulsatilla again.

American Institute of Homeopathy (AIH)

The AIH recently submitted recommendations to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) for their new strategic plan.

The AIH recommended research priorities in three separate areas, including basic mechanisms (to look more closely at recent nanoparticle research), comparative effectiveness trials via longitudinal data collection, and pilot trials in several clinical areas including fibromyalgia, mild traumatic brain injury, cancer, and others.

The AIH also recommended that the NCCIH seek expert homeopathic input on the next round of NHIS CAM questions to collect more relevant and meaningful data on the use of homeopathy in the U.S. Since 1844, AIH has been the voice of the homeopathic medical profession.  See  for further information.
