A Message From Deb Dupnik,
NCH Executive Director

As the reach of the National Center for Homeopathy expands in the US and around the world, it is important to me as the Executive Director that I stay in touch with our community. With all the uncertainty around us, be it in the world or in our own backyards, I wanted to let you know we are here. The homeopathy community is healthy and growing thanks to your support and commitment.

Since our founding in 1974, the National Center for Homeopathy community has committed it’s resources to deepening the understanding and application of homeopathy. We provide the necessary tools and educational support that empower individuals and practitioners to promote homeopathy as a safe, gentle, and natural system of healing.

The educational work of the National Center for Homeopathy continues to grow. Our magazine, webinars, annual meeting, study group program and website help to spread the message of this extremely safe to use, affordable, alternative to pharmaceuticals. NCH is helping more and more people learn about homeopathy as an effective, safe, historically-validated health care option to treat themselves and their families.

We remain grateful and loyal to all members of our community. Let us know what you think, what you want, and what you need to spread the message of empowerment, peer support, and hope. We thank you for your enthusiastic participation. We know that with your support - be it personal, educational, political or financial - NCH will continue as a world leader in advocating and educating for homeopathy.

Speaking on behalf of the staff and Board of Directors of NCH, thank you for your support!

How did you discover homeopathy?

My first venture out in public after serious surgery (spinal fusion T-4 to L-1), I heard the term homeopathy for the first time, AND I wrote to NCH for information on starting a Study Group—all in the same day. I knew I was facing a least a year of recovery until the fusion was solid and my pain was unbearable. The pain medication prescribed gave me zero relief, and it made me so nauseous, I was down to 75 pounds. Homeopathy sounded like an approach to healing that finally made sense.

Effect of Arnica in Marathon Runners

The study included 82 marathon runners from two separate randomized double-blind placebo controlled trials participating in the Oslo Marathon in 1990 and 1995.

Five pills of Arnica D30 or placebo were given morning and evening. The runners assessed muscular soreness on a visual analogue scale. Muscle enzymes, electrolytes and creatinine were measured before and after the marathons.

Results: Muscle soreness immediately after the marathon run was lower in the Arnica group than in the placebo group suggesting that Arnica D30 has a positive effect on muscle soreness. Cell damage measured by enzymes was similar in the Arnica and the placebo group.

Homeopathy and Sepsis

A randomized, doubleblind, placebo-controlled trial of 70 patients with severe sepsis received homeopathic treatment (n=35) or placebo (n=35).

On day 30, there was non-statistically significantly trend of survival in favor of homeopathy (81.8%, placebo 67.7%, P=0.19). On day 180, survival was statistically significantly higher with homeopathy (75.8% vs 50.0%, P=0.043). No adverse effects were observed.

Results: Our data suggest that homeopathic treatment may be a useful therapeutic measure with a long-term benefit for severely septic patients.

The Portuguese government has recently issued a new health law incorporating complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies. It encourages the integration of CAM into conventional treatment and takes responsibility for accreditation and supervision of the practices. The only drawback is that the CAM therapies are described as ‘unconventional therapies.’ Nonetheless, our Portuguese colleagues are pleased with this legislation.
