Sore Throat

There are many remedies that can help sooth a sore throat. The following are some of the most common:

  • Aconite:  Use this remedy for the sudden beginning of a sore throat after your child was exposed to cold, windy weather. The symptoms are very severe, and the child is scared and restless. The child is thirsty for cold drinks that are painful to swallow.
  • Belladonna: This remedy is an absolute champion in treating acute sore throats. Use when the pain and burning are on the right side. The child cannot tolerate even a slight touch of the throat. Symptoms feel worse when moving the head or swallowing liquids. The person has high fever with a red face, large pupils, hot head, and cold hands and feet and may be confused.
  • Bryonia: The beginning of the illness comes on slower than in a child who needs Belladonna, but the fever can be rather high. Pain is made worse by any movement, even speaking. The child wants to be quiet and be left alone. The child is very thirsty.
  • Ferrum phosphoricum: Use this for sore throat with high fever, significant weakness, but no symptoms that point to any other remedy you know.
  • Mercurius iodatus flavus: Use this for right-sided sore throats. This sore throat begins slower than cases that require Belladonna. There’s offensive breath and a dirty-looking, coated tongue. It’s much worse at night and with empty swallowing.
  • Mercurius iodatus ruber: This remedy is very frequently indicated for left-sided sore throat. All other symptoms are similar to Mercurius iodatus flavus.
  • Phytolacca: For when the throat is burning. Symptoms are made much worse by hot drinks and much better by cold drinks. The glands on the neck are frequently enlarged and painful.
